~Broken~
On the surface, humanity created a perfect world of order from the utter chaos and destruction of the final world war and the system is determined infailable. In this perfect paradise the tides of fate rise and fall around those society has deemed the architects and their children. In this perfect world the cybernetically enhanced and the genetically enhanced live together in harmony beneath the last sanctuary on earth. It was the development of “the core” system and their intricate ranking system which ended the war and the saved the people from destroying themselves entirely. It was the answer to their questioning that was seen playing out before hidden eyes as despite its flaws, the system was beautiful and it was in this that one understood why it was seen as perfect. For the council humanity is a quantifiable value that is saved by the very systems in place. Each one evolving and tailored to each person and it was in this organized chaos that the perfect equilibrium of population was found. For the Resistance humanity is the only last inch left that is worth fighting for to live instead of survive. In a system that has enslaved people to live and die by the value of numbers attributed to them from birth, this is all that remains. When hope lights the future over the shadows of the past, the children of the Architects find themselves trapped between what is to be and what was. When the fate of things comes full circle, the children of the architects realize that the weight of responsibility falls of them to carry on the legacy, but each one must ask themselves what is humanity and what is the most human course of action.
They say when we dream, it is here we walk the shades of reality and how true this is when you sleep at one point in time only to wake staring at yourself in another. To fall through the fabric of reality into the place of smoke filled mirrors between things is one things, but it is yet another to fall through time itself. How purely ironic it is that the very systems we develop to save ourselves are the very systems that condemn us and how accidents of frustration lead to both the greatest mysteries that can save us and yet at the same time condemn us. Irony, is lingering between the shades of things to see both through the eyes of the boy that was and the man that is and to know from this what will be. In this one must then ask themselves is it humanity or nature that brings the cyclic value of events, or perhaps it is the conflict between the two in which we only see in hindsight. They came to know the core as “the mother” because she took care of and watched over all of her children equally, but in the end we all must decide this for ourselves. In a world where a person is measured, quantified and defined by a black and white series of numbers dictating their entire lives, the children of the architects find that world is not as black and white as the system would have them believe when the very system they depend upon for survival is called into question. Shall the ties that bind them together be strong enough to break free from the fate dictated to them or will the delicate strands choke the very life from everything around them. One man finds that when survival is worth your last drop blood he must ask himself if a person is simply the sum of their quantifiable measurements or there something else the system can not possibly account for that offers a margin of error? It was perfect because it was broken in the ways it was, as the closer one came to an idealistic holding of the meaning, the more flaws one could see in its design and thus a never ending cycle of constantly evolving change. The system was designed to evolve with the people itself as in honest this was the closest rendition they seen to human evolution in a complex system yet and the computerized reflection of this.
Ravencroft Authored by C.A. Carriere BISAC: Fiction
ISBN-13: 978-1974070848 ISBN-10: 1974070840 List Price: $18.50
For a thousand years Ravencroft has withstood the test of time as home to perhaps the last Immortals following the great war between Necromancers, Shape shifters and Mankind itself. The oldest left standing civilization has risen over the last 1000 years from Nomad Tribes into a City of Immortals despite the wars between mortal men with the society of Immortals. The territory of Three Ravens, a sacred valley once called Anuretsu, the shadow of Death, borders the Northern territory of the tundra snow and ice lands. In a struggle to modernize while maintaining its original cultural value, the people of Ravencroft face worse than the elements of nature itself as the history of the city unfolds. Once every turn of the century the gates of the great city open for three months to invite new life within its walls as the great Choosing Ceremony begins, to mark the passage of time. Home to last Great Guardian of the Anuretsu, the Valley Of The Shadow Of Death, one house fights for survival in a city where only the oldest of immortals remain and only the elite masters of their trade survive choosing a Lady.
Despite obtaining mastery over death, space and time itself, the city faces the brink of destruction as the city itself has locked its residents with in the walls of its keeping. When the mastery of death itself is not enough to save the immortals from playing creator with time, the original Architect of Anuretsu finds himself with no other option but to raise the bastard orphan of the last guardian. When the council itself would burn the city the ground in the Death Games rather than to see its people starve another winter, Master Ryaez of High Loft fights against time itself to unlock the secrets of his manor's history and his own lineage before the gates close for good, fighting against both time and the council itself to save the one thing he has left, which could save their city. The greatest game of survival unfolds in the cradle of life and the crucible of death as the House of High Loft faces a choice that could destroy their slowly dying city forever or bring redemption for the lost souls trapped within its city walls.
